MSLBA sponsors the leading alcohol awareness server training program in the
State of Maryland, Maryland TAM, Inc. Designed
as an educational program by licensees for both "on and off" premise
establishments, Maryland TAM focuses on the varying effects of alcohol on individuals, the
law(s) and liabilities associated with the sale of alcohol, and emphasis on proper
procedures for verifying the legal age of patrons. MSLBA membership qualifies
licensees and their employees for discount registration fees for Maryland TAM training.
Below is a current class schedule and an explanation of the alcohol
awareness training law for Maryland retail alcohol beverage establishments. If you

THE ALCOHOL AWARENESS TRAINING LAW FOR
MARYLAND RETAIL ALCOHOL BEVERAGE ESTABLISHMENTS
THE REQUIREMENT - ARTICLE 2B-SS
On & Off Premise retail alcohol beverage
establishments are required to maintain at least one licensee or designated employee who
has been currently certified in an approved alcohol awareness training program.
Except in Montgomery, Harford and Howard Counties, the
certified person is not required to be on-premise at all times.
- Establishments in Montgomery, Harford and Howard Counties are currently required
to have a certified licensee or a certified person employed in a supervisory capacity
designated by the licensee, present during the hours in which alcohol may be sold.
IN MONTGOMERY, HARFORD & HOWARD
Certification must be renewed every four years to
Temporary licenses (except those issued in St.
Mary's County) and class E - steamboat, F - railroad and G - aircraft licenses are exempt
from this mandate.
Failure to have a certified representative may
result in license renewal delays, as well as, fines, suspensions or even revocation of
your retail alcohol beverage license.
HOW TO MEET THE REQUIREMENT
Maryland TAM, Techniques of Alcohol Management, is
the leading alcohol awareness training program in Maryland and has been approved by the
Comptroller for meeting the requirements of the alcohol awareness training law. A
local Maryland TAM seminar is available to meet your needs.
Maryland TAM provides a certificate and a card for
completion of their seminar. Certifications are recorded and a duplicate can be
provided in the event that you misplace it. If you have any questions, need a
